Delivery, acceptance and approval are three different events

A carrier's delivery confirmation shows that a package reached the stated destination. USCIS acceptance means the agency has completed its initial intake checks and created a receipt. Approval comes only after the agency adjudicates the benefit request. None of these events should be described as the others.

Keep the carrier tracking page, delivery image when available, complete signed filing copy and payment record together. When a deadline is involved, use the timeliness rule in the current form instructions and USCIS Policy Manual instead of assuming the mailing date or delivery date always controls.

Form G-1145 can provide an early acceptance alert

For eligible forms sent to a USCIS Lockbox, Form G-1145 can request a text message, email or both when USCIS accepts the filing. USCIS currently lists the September 26, 2014 edition and instructs filers to clip it to the front of the application or petition.

The electronic notification is a convenience, not an immigration benefit or approval. It contains a receipt number but no personal information, and USCIS warns that an undeliverable electronic notification cannot be resent. The paper Form I-797C receipt notice remains an important case record.

  • Confirm that the specific form and Lockbox location support G-1145 service.
  • Use an email address and mobile number the applicant controls.
  • Place one properly completed G-1145 where USCIS instructs.
  • Save the receipt number and wait for the mailed notice before discarding any filing record.

A rejection is not the same as a denial

A Lockbox rejection usually means USCIS did not accept the package for processing because an intake requirement was not met. USCIS identifies common reasons such as a missing or invalid signature, an outdated or mixed form edition, an incorrect fee, or an improperly completed payment authorization.

A denial is an adjudicative decision on an accepted case. With a rejection, read the returned notice and inspect every returned page before refiling. Do not simply replace the rejection sheet and resend the same package; the form, fee, evidence, filing location or deadline may have changed.

Correct the package from current official pages

Open the official page for each form on the day of refiling. Confirm the accepted edition, filing fee, payment method, filing location, required signatures and whether online filing is available. All pages of a form should come from the same accepted edition, with edition dates and page numbers visible.

Rebuild a clean package rather than inserting uncertain pages into the returned packet. Preserve the rejected copy and notice separately, clearly mark any prior filing copy as a copy when using it as supporting evidence, and obtain legal advice immediately if a deadline may have passed.

  • Match the form category and requested benefit to the correct fee.
  • Check every required signature after printing.
  • Use single-sided, letter-size pages unless the current instructions state otherwise.
  • Avoid binders, photo albums, digital media and duplicate evidence USCIS cannot efficiently scan.

Use Lockbox Support for the problems USCIS assigns to it

USCIS directs people with questions about a Lockbox submission after 30 business days of processing to email Lockbox Support at lockboxsupport@uscis.dhs.gov. The same official page provides a route for reporting a belief that the Lockbox lost all or part of a package.

A focused message should identify the form number, receipt number if one exists, petitioner or applicant name, and mailing address. USCIS specifically says not to include a Social Security number in the email. Keep the sent message and any response with the filing record.

Start with the carrier when the package may be lost in transit

If tracking does not show delivery, contact the carrier and preserve the inquiry number. USCIS says that a form mailed to the wrong Lockbox may sometimes be forwarded to the correct location, but a filing not processed by a Lockbox may instead be returned to the address on the form.

Do not treat possible forwarding as a filing plan. USCIS addresses differ by form, eligibility category and delivery service, and they change. Verify the exact address immediately before mailing and distinguish U.S. Postal Service addresses from FedEx, UPS or DHL addresses when the form page provides separate instructions.

A missing receipt may require more than waiting

Review the payment record, carrier delivery and any G-1145 message. A cashed check, processed card charge or electronic receipt can provide clues that the package was accepted, but each clue should be documented rather than treated as a substitute for the official notice.

If the filing was time-sensitive, status-dependent or connected to employment authorization, travel or court proceedings, obtain qualified legal advice promptly. Lockbox Support can investigate intake issues, but it does not extend a deadline, decide eligibility or replace case-specific legal strategy.

Protect the record before the package leaves

Scan the final signed package in the exact order mailed, including payment forms and the carrier label. Create a one-page index listing the form edition, fee, address source, mailing date, tracking number and delivery result. Store bank details and identity records securely.

Original Documentation can help assemble and index a filing based on the client's instructions and official requirements. It cannot decide eligibility, repair a missed legal deadline or predict whether USCIS will accept or approve the request.
